Indae Hwang

Before commencing his academic career at Monash, Indae Hwang worked as an art director and interaction designer for Pentabreed, a Design Firm based in Korea, for five years. His primary interest has been to design meaningful user experiences with the new emergence of digital technologies. His interests have been reflected in various commercial UX projects with the industry’s leading companies in Korea, such as Samsung and LG.

Hwang’s interest in user experiences and newly emerging digital technologies has been extended to his doctoral research and current interactive artworks. Hwang’s research interests focus on critical reflections on our relationship with emerging digital technologies through interactive arts. By doing so, he argues the significant role of our essential considerations in embracing the recent emergence of digital technologies into our contemporary techno-society.

Hwang is a research member of Design Health Collab in Monash Art, Design and Architecture, specialised in Interaction Design. He has been working on various interaction design projects exploring potential digital interventions concerning behaviour changes for health and wellbeing. He also worked with data visualisation for the Mobility lab in Mobility Lab in Monash Art, Design and Architecture.

Along with the research activities, Hwang teaches User Experience and Interaction Design. His teaching focuses on helping students utilise newly emerging media technologies to design rich user experiences in their design works.
